Oakville Schools: Rankings and Catchments

Key Takeaways

  • Forest Trail Public School, HDSB's French Immersion elementary school in West Oak Trails, has the strongest public school score in Oakville: 10.0 out of 10 in the Fraser Institute's Report Card on Ontario's Elementary Schools 2025, ranked 1st out of 3,047 schools province wide.
  • Among the public and Catholic boards, Abbey Park High School and Iroquois Ridge High School are tied for 8th out of 747 secondary schools in the Fraser Institute's Report Card on Ontario's Secondary Schools 2025, both scoring 9.3.
  • Oakville has two boards covering the whole town: the Halton District School Board (HDSB) for public schools and the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) for Catholic schools. Which applies depends on the family, not the street.
  • North Oakville is where the boards are still building. HDSB opened Harvest Oak Public School in September 2025 and HCDSB opened St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School in September 2024. A new HDSB secondary school, Oakville NE #1 HS, breaks ground in north Oakville for a September 2027 opening.
  • Three boundary reviews are active or recently approved right now: HDSB's Oakville NE #1 Secondary School Boundary Review, HDSB's Northwest Oakville Elementary Boundary Review, and HCDSB's North Oakville #4 Catholic Elementary School Boundary Review.
  • Run any address through HDSB's Find My Local School tool or HCDSB's Find Your School tool before you buy. A listing description is not verification.

Oakville is served by the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board. Both cover the entire town, so a family's board depends on which system they choose, not which neighbourhood they live in. Below is a walk through the schools in each part of Oakville, with Fraser Institute scores where a school has one, followed by the secondary school picture, the boundary reviews underway, and how catchments affect price.

Old Oakville

New Central Public School on Balsam Drive is the JK-6 HDSB elementary school inside Old Oakville. It scored 9.6 out of 10 in the Fraser Institute's 2025 elementary Report Card, tied for 51st out of 3,047 ranked schools, with a five year average of 8.5. East of the pocket, Ecole E.J. James Public School runs single track French Immersion for Grades 2 to 8 and matched that 9.6 score, also tied for 51st, with a stronger five year average of 9.0. Oakville Trafalgar High School, is the HDSB secondary school. It scored 9.2, ranked 12th out of 747 secondary schools, with a five year average of 9.1. For Catholic families, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School on Dorval Drive scored 8.2, tied for 65th, with a five year average of 7.6, and runs an IB Diploma Programme. Two independent schools sit inside the pocket: St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School, a JK-12 girls' school on Linbrook Road, and Linbrook School, a JK-8 boys' day school across the road. Neither carries a published Fraser score.

Kerr Village

Oakwood Public School on Bartos Drive covers Kindergarten to Grade 5 near Kerr Village. The Fraser Institute's Report Card rates elementary schools on grade 3 and grade 6 EQAO results, and a school that stops at Grade 5 is not included, so Oakwood carries no published score. A short distance west, W.H. Morden Public School covers Kindergarten to Grade 8 and scored 8.5 out of 10, tied for 199th, with a five year average of 8.4. T.A. Blakelock High School on Rebecca Street is the HDSB secondary school, scoring 8.1, tied for 79th, with a five year average of 7.8. On the Catholic side, St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary School on Warminster Drive has a newer building and has no published Fraser score. St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School, covered above, is the Catholic high school for this end of town too.

Bronte

Eastview, Gladys Speers, and Pine Grove Public Schools are the HDSB elementary schools serving Bronte. In the Fraser Institute's 2025 elementary Report Card, Pine Grove scored 7.9, tied for 392nd, with a five year average of 8.1. Gladys Speers scored 7.7, tied for 480th, with a five year average of 7.2. Eastview scored 6.9, tied for 927th, with a matching five year average of 7.2. T. A. Blakelock High School on Rebecca Street is the HDSB secondary school here as well. On the Catholic side, St. Dominic Catholic Elementary School at 2405 Rebecca Street scored 8.5, tied for 199th, with a five year average of 7.7.

Glen Abbey

Pilgrim Wood Public School, offering English, French Immersion, and Gifted programs, posts the standout score in Glen Abbey: 9.7 out of 10 in the Fraser Institute's 2025 elementary Report Card, tied for 42nd, with a five year average of 9.1. Heritage Glen Public School scored 8.1, tied for 313th, with a five year average of 7.9. Abbey Park High School, beside the community centre, scored 9.3, tied for 8th province wide, with a five year average of 8.8, and runs a Specialist High Skills Major program. On the Catholic side, St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School scored 8.2, tied for 287th, with a five year average of 7.6.

West Oak Trails

West Oak Public School runs the K-8 English program in West Oak Trails and scored 6.6 out of 10 in the Fraser Institute's 2025 elementary Report Card, tied for 1,137th, with a five year average of 7.7. Forest Trail Public School, HDSB's French Immersion school in the community with Grade 2 entry, posted the top elementary score in Oakville: 10.0, ranked 1st, with a five year average of 9.5. Garth Webb Secondary School, named for the D-Day veteran who founded the Juno Beach Centre, scored 8.5, tied for 42nd, with a matching five year average, and runs a Specialist High Skills Major program. St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School, a short drive south, scored 8.1, tied for 79th, with a five year average of 8.1.

River Oaks

River Oaks Public School, offering English and French Immersion, sits in the middle of River Oaks and scored 6.4 out of 10 in the Fraser Institute's 2025 elementary Report Card, tied for 1,282nd, with a five year average of 6.7. White Oaks Secondary School, which runs on a South Campus and a North Campus, scored 8.8, tied for 29th, with a five year average of 8.4. It is the only HDSB school in Oakville offering the IB Diploma Programme, and it runs a Specialist High Skills Major program too. On the Catholic side, St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic Elementary School scored 8.5, tied for 199th, with a five year average of 8.1, and Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, which offers Advanced Placement courses and an Extended French program, scored 7.1, tied for 201st, with a five year average of 7.5.

Joshua Creek

Joshua Creek Public School, offering English and French Immersion, is the HDSB elementary school inside Joshua Creek. It scored 9.0 out of 10 in the Fraser Institute's 2025 elementary Report Card, tied for 110th, with a five year average of 8.8. Iroquois Ridge High School, beside the community centre and also offering French Immersion, scored 9.3, tied for 8th province wide, the joint highest secondary score in Oakville, with a five year average of 9.0. It runs a Specialist High Skills Major program too. St. Marguerite d'Youville Catholic Elementary School, covered above under River Oaks, serves this pocket on the Catholic side.

North Oakville and Uptown Core

North Oakville and the Uptown Core are where the boards are still building. Harvest Oak Public School, a three storey HDSB school at 1235 Wheat Boom Drive, opened in September 2025 with room for more than 750 students. It has not been open long enough to carry a Fraser score. On the Catholic side, St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School opened in September 2024 with 671 pupil places, also too new for a published score. Among the established elementary schools in the area, Sunningdale Public School scored 8.8 out of 10, tied for 149th, with a five year average of 8.7, and Palermo Public School scored 6.6, tied for 1,137th, with a five year average of 7.1. Secondary students here currently feed into White Oaks, Garth Webb, or Iroquois Ridge, all covered above, until Oakville NE #1 HS opens in September 2027 with room for roughly 1,331 pupil places.

Secondary Schools in Oakville

Nine HDSB and HCDSB secondary schools serve Oakville today, with a tenth under construction. Here is how the nine rank in the Fraser Institute's 2025 secondary Report Card, out of 747 schools province wide, from highest score to lowest:

  • Abbey Park High School: 9.3, tied for 8th, five year average 8.8.
  • Iroquois Ridge High School: 9.3, tied for 8th, five year average 9.0.
  • Oakville Trafalgar High School: 9.2, ranked 12th, five year average 9.1.
  • White Oaks Secondary School: 8.8, ranked 29th, five year average 8.4.
  • Garth Webb Secondary School: 8.5, ranked 42nd, five year average 8.5.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School: 8.2, ranked 65th, five year average 7.6.
  • St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School: 8.1, tied for 79th, five year average 8.1.
  • T. A. Blakelock High School: 8.1, tied for 79th, five year average 7.8.
  • Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School: 7.1, ranked 201st, five year average 7.5.

White Oaks Secondary School runs HDSB's only Oakville site for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School runs HCDSB's IB Diploma Programme in Oakville and has held IB World School status for more than a decade. Specialist High Skills Major programs run at Abbey Park, Garth Webb, Iroquois Ridge, Oakville Trafalgar, T.A. Blakelock, and White Oaks on the HDSB side, and at St. Thomas Aquinas and Holy Trinity on the HCDSB side. A tenth secondary school, Oakville NE #1 HS at 4020 Sixth Line in north Oakville, breaks ground for a September 2027 opening as a Grade 9 and Grade 10 English school, adding a grade a year until it reaches full Grade 9 to 12 capacity in 2029-2030.

Boundary Reviews and Capacity

Three boundary processes are live in Oakville right now. HDSB's Oakville NE #1 Secondary School Boundary Review, approved May 5, 2026, sets the new school's catchment and consolidates French Immersion at Garth Webb, phasing it out of T.A. Blakelock. HDSB's Northwest Oakville Elementary Boundary Review, reinitiated at the June 2, 2026 board meeting, covers ten schools including Pilgrim Wood, Heritage Glen, Forest Trail, and West Oak, and addresses what the board calls disproportionate enrolment between them. Implementation could start as early as September 2027. On the Catholic side, HCDSB's North Oakville #4 Catholic Elementary School Boundary Review redirected students east of Sixth Line from St. Gregory the Great, which the board said was nearing site capacity, to the new St. Cecilia Catholic Elementary School starting in the 2024-2025 school year. A second new HDSB elementary school, Oakville NE #5 PS, is scheduled to open in September 2026. Expect more boundary changes as the new schools fill in.

Catchments and What They Mean for Prices

Oakville families pay close attention to school scores, and the map behind those scores does not stand still. Every boundary review above can move a house from one school to another, and two houses on the same street sometimes feed different schools once French Immersion or Gifted boundaries are drawn separately from the English catchment, as around Pilgrim Wood and several other Oakville schools. Boundary streets are not listed here because the Oakville maps have changed more than once in the past two years. A high Fraser score in a listing tells you what the assigned school scored last year, not which school an address is assigned to today, or which one it will feed once a boundary review now underway concludes.

How to Verify a Catchment Before You Buy

For public schools, use HDSB's Find My Local School tool. Enter the exact street address and it returns the designated elementary and secondary schools for that home, including whether the address falls inside an active boundary review. For Catholic schools, use HCDSB's Find Your School tool, run through the School Locator and Boundaries pages, which works the same way and links to a downloadable boundary map for each school. Run both tools before you buy, not after. A listing that names a top ranked school describes the school assigned today, and Oakville has three boundary reviews in progress that could change that answer before your child starts.

Frequently asked questions

Which school board serves Oakville?

Public schools in Oakville belong to the Halton District School Board. Catholic schools belong to the Halton Catholic District School Board. Both boards cover the whole town, so which one applies depends on the family, not the address.

What is the highest rated elementary school in Oakville?

Forest Trail Public School, HDSB's French Immersion school in West Oak Trails, scored 10.0 out of 10 in the Fraser Institute's Report Card on Ontario's Elementary Schools 2025, ranked 1st out of 3,047 schools province wide.

What is the highest rated secondary school in Oakville?

Among the public and Catholic boards, Abbey Park High School and Iroquois Ridge High School are tied, both scoring 9.3 out of 10 and tied for 8th out of 747 schools in the Fraser Institute's Report Card on Ontario's Secondary Schools 2025.

Does a good school score guarantee a specific school for an address?

No. Boundaries change, and Oakville has three boundary reviews active right now. Confirm the address with HDSB's Find My Local School tool or HCDSB's Find Your School tool before you buy.

In short

Oakville's school scores are strong across most of the town: a 10.0 rated elementary school, two secondary schools tied for 8th in the province, and a handful of schools below the 7.0 mark. The trade off is that the town is still building to keep up, with three boundary reviews live at once and two new elementary schools opened in the past two years. A score tells you about last year's results. The catchment is whatever the board's map says today, so check both. Run the address through HDSB's or HCDSB's lookup tool before you buy, because the boundary that matters is the one in effect on closing day, not the one in the listing.
